A Campus That Keeps Expanding
Walk through the main entrance of Celina High School on a August morning and the scale of what is being added becomes hard to ignore. Steel, concrete, and fresh paint mark the edges of a new wing that will welcome students when the 2026–27 school year opens on August 12. The 232,109-square-foot campus at 3455 N. Preston Road was already one of the larger buildings in Collin County. What is being finished now makes it larger still — and, by the look of the program list, substantially more ambitious.
The expansion is part of a broader construction push by Celina ISD that is also delivering a new middle school and a new elementary school this same fall. But the high school additions deserve their own attention because of how specifically they are aimed at what students say they want to do after graduation.
What the New Spaces Actually Include
The list of new facilities reads less like a school addition and more like a small college’s specialization catalog.
Fine Arts and Performance
A dedicated band hall anchors the fine arts side of the expansion. For a district whose Bobcat athletic identity is well established, the investment in a purpose-built rehearsal and performance space signals that the arts program is being treated as equally serious. Proper acoustics, instrument storage, and rehearsal geometry matter to a high school band in ways that a converted classroom can never fully address.
Career and Technical Education
The culinary arts kitchen, floral lab, and animal science lab arrive together as a bloc of career and technical education spaces. Each one connects to a pathway that leads somewhere concrete — food service and hospitality management, floral design and horticulture, and agricultural science, a field with deep roots in Celina’s identity as a city that moved fast from a small ranching community into one of the fastest-growing places in North Texas.
The fashion design studio extends that CTE footprint into the creative trades. An AV broadcast studio and a forensics lab round out a wing that is clearly designed for students who learn by doing rather than by listening.
Technology and the Café
An esports suite joins the mix, which reflects where competitive gaming now sits in the broader landscape of extracurricular activity. UIL-sanctioned esports programs have become a legitimate path for students who are serious competitors but whose skills run toward a keyboard and monitor rather than a football field. Having a dedicated space, rather than a shared computer lab, signals that Celina ISD intends to take that program seriously.
A café adds a practical amenity. For a campus this size — one that by now serves a student population whose families moved to Celina precisely because the schools kept up with the growth — having flexible dining and gathering space matters for daily life.
Additional science labs and general classrooms fill out what remains, providing capacity headroom as enrollment numbers continue to climb.
Context: A District Building for the Surge
Celina’s growth over the past decade has been relentless by any measure. The high school wing is the most visible piece of a construction program that is also opening a three-story, 212,002-square-foot middle school at 1305 Old Glendenning near the Cross Creek neighborhood, and Vasquez Elementary School, a 101,271-square-foot two-story campus in the Parks of Wilson Creek neighborhood. All three projects open for the same first day of school.
The board of trustees approved the 2026–27 academic calendar on April 28, locking in August 12 as the date when students will walk through those new doors for the first time.
Why This Expansion Feels Different
School additions happen in growing districts all the time, and square footage alone does not tell a story worth reading. What makes the Celina High School expansion worth marking is the specificity of the programs it is designed to house.
A forensics lab is not a generic classroom with a different label on the door. An AV broadcast studio requires infrastructure that is expensive to retrofit later. A culinary kitchen demands ventilation, commercial-grade equipment, and safety standards that take planning from the beginning. The fact that these spaces were designed in from the start, rather than added as afterthoughts, suggests that the people drawing these plans were listening to what students and teachers were actually asking for.
For families who moved to Celina in part because they expected the school district to grow with their children, the fall of 2026 is something of a proof-of-concept moment. Three campuses opening simultaneously, with a high school wing that covers everything from livestock science to esports, is the kind of bet that either lands or it doesn’t.
